Instructions:

Put the gutted herrings in a mixture of half mineral water and half water for one night. Then skin fish, cut into 2 cm wide pieces, layer in a jar with onions and carrot slices and spices.

Bring vinegar and sugar to a boil, cool and pour over herrings.

Leave in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

Serve with fresh wholemeal bread or possibly cooked, peeled potatoes.

Tip: Always use aromatic spices to refine your dishes!
