The classic as loved in southern Germany, there just as known as “Kerscheplotzer”. A rather substantial thing, which you can serve up just as a sweet main course. With a hearty soup in front, a whole meal that not only toddlers like! Important: use a shallow dish so that the surface with the toasted, sweet-soaked bread slices is all the larger – for many, it’s the best part of the whole dish.

Cut the ribs into cubes of 2 centimeters edge length. In a frying pan, fry the butter until hazelnut brown, then toast the bread cubes in it, shaking and turning them vigorously until golden. This will give them not only color, but also flavor. Spread the cubes evenly in an ovenproof dish – you can also use portioned dishes if you want to serve the dish as a small dessert (then the mixture will be enough for twice as many people). Finally, sprinkle de-stemmed (or pitted, if you like) cherries in between.

Whisk the eggs with sugar, vanilla sugar and whipped cream until smooth and spread evenly over the breadcrumbs. Allow to soak for half an hour so that the bread can absorb the liquid. Then place the pan in the 200 °C hot oven and bake the cherry pastry for about 30 minutes until the surface is appetizingly browned and crispy.

Tip: You can also serve it with whipped cream.

Drink: It goes well with a whole
